Electoral reforms

Many of the political leaders who run this country are tainted; most are either incompetent or possess shallow visions. And look, where they have brought us!

At the time of elections, we are given a list of candidates and asked to choose one of them as our MLA or MP. We cannot reject all of them (we have no ‘right to reject’). We appoint them for five years but we cannot cancel their appointment if they fail to perform (we have no ‘right to recall). For five years, our paid representatives have a free run of the country, often doing a shoddy job, as we watch helplessly.

For justice and freedom to prevail and prosperity to happen, a country needs good laws and have them implemented efficiently without any compromises. Only true leaders with foresight, deep wisdom, total integrity, utmost commitment to the cause of the nation and necessary talent can deliver on these promises to ourselves.

To have good laws and implement them honestly, and to ensure that right actions are taken for the country’s development, we need the right people in the parliament and state legislatures. This calls for wide ranging reforms in the electoral process and instituting of measures for continuous monitoring of the conduct and performance of elected representatives.
